英国王即位紀年

[1] 英国 (本国および英連邦諸国) では英国国王の在位紀年が用いられています。

一般的事項や他国との比較は在位紀年

紀年法

[29] 原則として国王の即位の日が第1年の開始日となります。 以後、第2年、第3年と進んでいきます。

[30] 元号名に相当する部分に王の名前を充てて他と区別します。 王の固有名を避けて 「Our Reign」 のような定型句的な一般名を使うこともあれば、 逆にどことどこの君主たる誰それ陛下の、 といった装飾された王号を使うこともあります。

[31] 古くはラテン語で記述されることがありました (法的文書をラテン語で書く時代がありました) が、現在はもっぱら英語で表記されます。

[32] 古くは単独で用いられることが多かったようですが、 近年は王の何年かつ主の何年とキリスト紀元と併記することも多いようです。

文脈

[33] 前近代には公文書はもちろん私文書でも広く用いられていました。

[34] 現在では公的な場面、それも限られた対象にのみ使われているようです。

議会会期

[12] 英国議会の会期は、 在位紀年で表されました。 開催が複数年にわたるときは併記されました。

[13] 現在は開催の暦年 (グレゴリオ暦) の併記となっているようです >>10, >>11。変更時期は不明。

[19] カナダの連邦議会 >>18 や州議会の会期には在位紀年と西暦が現在も併記されています。 ただし Webサイトの会期一覧など目立つ所では省略されています。

法令番号

[5] 英国の法令番号は、 1962年まで議会の会期を章 (Section) としていました。 1962年会期に成立した法律で、 1963年以後暦年 (グレゴリオ暦) を章とすることに変更されました >>4。

[8] 1963年以後の法律内で 1962年以前の法律を参照する場合は従来の法令番号が引き続き用いられたようです。

[6] 現在英国議会の Webサイトでは変更以前の法令も暦年の法令番号になっているようです >>7。そのような法改正があったのかは不明。

[17] ニュージーランドも当初議会会期を使っていましたが、現在は暦年のようです。

法律本文の施行期日は英語による西暦年。

この法律は後に Short Title Act, 1896, http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1896/14/pdfs/ukpga_18960014_en.pdf で略題が一括付与され Slave Trade Act, 1843 となった。 これ以後制定された法律には西暦年が含まれた略題が与えられている。 略題付与により以後誰王何年制定何々法という参照が簡略化されたようだ。

暦法

[23] 年始は違いますが、月日はユリウス暦やグレゴリオ暦 (英国式ユリウスグレゴリオ暦) が使われます。

改元

[27] 英国式改元は、東洋式改元とは違って、 年数が元年にリセットされると同時に年始が改元日に改められます。

[28] 西暦X年Y月Z日に英国式改元された場合、 西暦X年Y月Z日から西暦X+1年Y月Z-1日までが第1年、 西暦X+1年Y月Z日からが第2年となります。 西暦X年1月1日から第2年が始まる東洋式改元とは年の範囲が違ってきます。
