[5] HTML ヘルプ は、 WinIE4 の頃?に導入された、 HTML ベースの Windows のヘルプ・システムです。
[7] HTML Help の文書形式は、 HTML 文書や画像などの関連ファイルをまとめて「コンパイル」 して1つのファイルにしたもの (CHM ファイル) でした。含まれている HTML 等は一般的な文書形式ではありましたが、 コンパイル後のファイルは独自形式でした。
[8] HTML Help のビューアーは、 WinIE のレンダリング・エンジン (Trident) を使った専用のブラウザーです。

[6] それまで Windows では WinHelp という RTF ベースの独自のヘルプ・システムを使っていましたが、 徐々に HTML Help に移行しており、現在では WinHelp は使われなくなっています。
