[[RFC 2965]] と2回 [[Cookie]] の標準化が試みられてきましたが、いずれも現実を無視した仕様だったため、
[[利用者エージェント]]側にも[[鯖]]側にもほとんど相手にされていませんでした。
[[RFC 6265]] は [[Adam Barth]] ら[[Webブラウザー]]側の関係者を中心として、
[[NetscapeのCookie仕様]]を引き継ぎより現実的な仕様を規定するものとなっています。
